the most common error for beginning revolver shooters is starting with too small a gun and too powerful ammo.
the J-frame really is a horrible choice as a starter pistol, too small and the coil spring powered trigger is just more problematic than a leaf spring in the S&W system...seems more suited to the Ruger's geometry, you might look into the newer LCR as buckshot stated one of the best guns to start on is a S&W K-frame...and please start with .38 spl wadcutters. i've had good luck starting students, if they want to go the revolver route, out DAO as i've found that it lessens the temptation to "snatch" at the trigger. it works better with women than men...it's an ego thing. the DA trigger stroke should be taught parallel with the press out from high ready...it involves the whole body in the process and distracts the ego. if you were local, i'd be happy to help you out too...you pay for the ammo and range fees ![]() oops...missed part of the OP. i had the cylinder latch on my 642 beveled to stop the "file effect" ...i also shoot with a "high thumb" and try to get more of my left hand on the grip
